It is a long journey from my childhood. Actually, ‘acting’ is the primal force that has fetched me into theatre. And it has been keeping me into theatre for the long 25 years.

In my schooldays, as every kid participates in school programs, I took part in a self-directed mess, a piece from Tagore’s Dakghar. The endeavor was a big failure as we the two tiny actors were in standard three, having no teacher to instruct.

In our high school days, I never dared to act, but had seen plays by others. Our school seldom gave us this kind of opportunity, except on the birthdays of Tagore and the Independence Day. But, fortunately a theatre group had their rehearsal room beside our school. We could hear the actors singing and playing for the whole-days long. Mesmerized, those days, I think, put the primary but permanent inspiration in my sub-conscious.

But the insect of ‘acting’ kept biting me always. And that brought me into a theatre group. I started doing theatre under a rural roof and started discovering my real and right self. Thus the journey began, and I have been carried away. I admit that ACTING indulged me to join THEATRE, theatre inspired me in LITERATURE, literature inspired me in CINEMA and all of them are very much ‘responsible’ to strive me in a no-man’s-land which is called ART. Yes, if you are an artist, you have to fight alone, live alone and learn to be alone.

And thus, I am still a learner of acting. Still, I am trying to discover myself through whatever the process I undergo – whether it is that of Stanislavsky, Brecht, Chekov, Strasberg, Stella Adler, Grotowski, Spolin, Panet or anyone else. I dream to reach a state where the ART becomes sublime and I could be its one of the truest servers.

Amen.
